RAMA SEETA ELEVATED. I recreated this piece for a client and like all of my work, I refrain from creating exact replicates. I spent time studying scripture and made changes to evoke the emotions of the story of rama and seetha. By depicting them closer together and having them face one another, embellishing both deities, and altering textures even further, I was able to emphasize the duality of the story. Though we may constantly be growing closer with one another, situationally, there may always be empty space between us, between our two haNds. Whether it be distance, arguments, or even death, no matter how strong your connection is, there might be something in the middle. and that is one of life’s most gruesome situations. I focused on bringing through the emotions you feel leaned up on a couch with your best friends, being so engrossed in their story, so appreciatIve of their soul, that you’re completely present in the moment. THANGAM THOUGHTS, the first of the collection, was made for auction at the eli whitney museum in a leonardo davinci exhibit. it features acrylics mixed with an iridescent medium atop glass in a thrifted wooden frame. the piece incorporates the leonardo davinci signature portrait style and his mirror writing. the excerpt written on the bottom, on the back of the frame, is taken from Sri Sai Satcharitra in honor of da vinci’s love for learning and constant quest for development.
